Transferring a site via FTP

1. Getting connected

  1. Check the server details:
You can find the necessary information in the "Hosting account details" message sent to your email address when you subscribed, or on your customer page under Web hosting details (look for "Technical information"). If necessary, contact support.
  2. Open the FileZilla program:
Select from the top menu File -> Site management.
  3. Create a new website:
For example, add a new site under the "My sites" folder. Fill in the following fields:
    • Host:
server address (this can be found in the browser address bar when you are logged into cPanel, for example cloud01.nordichost.fi)
    • Port:
    • For FTP, the port is 21
    • Login type:
      Select Normal.
    • Username and password:
Enter the credentials found in the "Hosting account details" message or on your account page. If you have created a separate FTP account, please use this information. Contact support if necessary.
  4. Make the connection:
Click "OK" and connect to the server.

2. Using the public folder - public_html

  • Once the connection is established, open public_html-folder. This folder is the public root directory of your website, so your files will appear directly in your main domain (for example https://www.nordichost.fi)
  • Note: The public_html folder may contain default files (for example index.php), which you can remove if you want to replace them with your own pages.

3. Transferring files and publishing your site

  • Transfer:
Drag your local files and folders from the left window of FileZilla to the right (server-side) folder.
  • Main page:
Make sure that the filename of the main page is either index.php, index.htm or index.htmlso that it loads correctly when users visit your site.
  • Subdirectories:
If you want to publish your site in a subdirectory (for example at http://www.omadomain.fi/sivusto2/), first create a new folder site2 public_html folder and move all the files for that site into it.
  • The website is now published!
