Check and free web hosting disk space
Find whether websites, email or old backups are using your storage.
In this guide
Start with the overall picture
A full disk can prevent incoming mail, updates and file writes. Check the service's total quota separately from individual mailbox limits. A file-count limit can also be reached while space in megabytes remains available.
Find the largest items
- Open Disk Usage in cPanel and review the largest directories.
- Expand the directory tree to locate the website or folder using the space.
- Check old ZIP archives, installer packages, logs, test sites and backups stored on the same service.
- Review email in Email Accounts and, when needed, Email Disk Usage.
- Download data you need to keep before deleting it. Remove only items whose purpose you understand.
Free space without breaking the site
Remove unneeded backup archives only after confirming a working copy exists elsewhere. Clear application caches using their own controls. Do not delete the WordPress uploads directory, databases or cPanel system directories to save space.
File Manager trash can still consume disk space. Review its contents before permanently emptying it. Deleting IMAP messages also affects other devices.
Check again
Refresh usage statistics after a short interval and retry the operation that failed. Counters do not always update immediately. If usage quickly returns, investigate causes such as repeated backups or an error log. If normal usage exceeds the available space, discuss a larger plan with support.
