Change a website's PHP version
Select a compatible PHP version and test the change before using it on your live site.
In this guide
Check compatibility
The PHP version affects website code, plugins and themes. Check supported versions in the application's release information. Choose a supported version from those available on the service. Test the change on a separate site copy first when possible.
Back up files and the database. Note the current version and affected domains so you know your rollback option.
Change the version in MultiPHP Manager
- Open MultiPHP Manager in cPanel.
- Find the website's domain and check its current PHP version.
- Select only the domain you intend to change. Consider names sharing the same document root.
- Choose an available version from PHP Version and select Apply.
- Wait for completion and test the website immediately.
If your service uses a separate Select PHP Version tool, its workflow may differ. Do not change both tools at random; ask support which one manages your service.
Verify and resolve errors
Test sign-in, forms, search and any payments. In WordPress, Tools > Site Health helps confirm the version in use.
If the change causes an error, record the message and switch back to the previous version if it remains available. Fix the incompatible plugin or code before trying again. You cannot install a missing PHP version through this interface; ask support about availability.
