Update WordPress, plugins and themes
Review available updates and keep the website working after changes.

Prepare for the update
Take a fresh backup of files and the database. Check important plugins for compatibility with the WordPress and PHP versions. Try major changes on a test copy first, particularly for online stores.
Update in WP Toolkit
- Open WP Toolkit and the correct site card.
- Review available WordPress, plugin and theme updates. Refresh the update check if needed.
- Open the update list, review selections and start the required updates. Small, controlled batches make faults easier to identify.
- Keep the restore point option selected if offered.
- Wait for completion and check the result before making another change.
Alternatively, use Dashboard > Updates in WordPress. A paid plugin may require a valid license or the vendor's own update method.
Plan automatic updates
In Autoupdate settings, WP Toolkit can let you configure WordPress, plugin and theme policies separately when available. Ensure security updates are applied promptly. Pair automatic updates with backups and monitoring. Any Smart Updates feature depends on your service's capabilities.
Test important user actions
Open the site while signed out, test a form, sign-in and any shopping cart. Clear caches. If an error occurs, record the last updated component and use a tested recovery method when necessary. Do not permanently leave a known vulnerability unresolved because of a compatibility problem.
