What does a WordPress backup need?

A complete site requires both files and the database. A WordPress XML content export alone is not a restorable copy of the entire website. Check free disk space and remember that backups can contain user data and credentials.

Create a backup in WP Toolkit

  1. Open the correct site card in cPanel's WP Toolkit.
  2. Select Back Up / Restore, if available on your service.
  3. Start Back Up and wait for completion.
  4. Check the backup timestamp and size. Download a copy outside the service if downloading is offered.
  5. Record which website and pre-change state the copy contains.

If the feature is missing, use cPanel file and database backups or a WordPress backup method agreed with your maintainer. Do not assume a particular automatic backup schedule or retention period without checking your service.

Restore carefully

Save the current state before restoring when possible. Open Back Up / Restore for the same site, select the required copy and review the target and scope before confirming Restore.

Restoration can replace orders, users and content created after the backup. Preserve those records and restrict new writes during recovery. An update restore point may not cover the same data as a separate full backup.

Verify the restored website

Test pages, sign-in, images, forms and important store functions. Check that the site is not left in maintenance mode. If a backup was created with another tool, do not assume it is compatible with WP Toolkit restoration.
