Choose the source and recipient

Make sure you are allowed to forward the source address's messages to the chosen destination. This guide adds forwarding to an existing mailbox. Messages also remain in the original mailbox and use its storage.

Add the forwarder

  1. Open Forwarders in cPanel and select Add Forwarder.
  2. Enter the local part of the source address in Address to Forward and select its domain separately.
  3. Choose Forward to Email Address and enter the complete destination address.
  4. Check both addresses and save with Add Forwarder.
  5. Send a test from a third address and confirm delivery to both the original and destination mailboxes.

Understand the limitations

Forwarding does not grant permission to send as the original address. Configure that mailbox's SMTP connection in your mail app to send from it.

Do not create opposing rules that forward messages back to each other. An external provider may reject forwarded mail because of sender authentication or spam filtering. Check Track Delivery and the destination's spam folder when needed.

Remove an unused forwarder

Delete only the relevant forwarding rule from the Forwarders list and test the change. Deleting the mailbox is a separate operation that can remove messages. Continue monitoring the original mailbox's storage while forwarding is enabled.
