Before making changes

This guide covers websites deployed from GitHub. Check GitHub for the location of package.json or Dockerfile and the branch containing the version you want to publish.

Change the build settings

  1. Open the website and Settings → Source and build.
  2. Check the repository and Branch. The branch must exist in the selected repository.
  3. Leave Subfolder empty to build from the repository root. If a separate application is in apps/web, for example, enter /apps/web. This is the source location, not the finished dist or .next output directory.
  4. Choose Automatic (Nixpacks) to detect the project from package.json. Choose Dockerfile to use the Dockerfile in the selected folder.
  5. Select Save and deploy and open the new deployment's log.

Check building and startup

Make sure the dependency definitions and lockfile have been committed to GitHub. Define the build and start steps your application needs in the project's own files. This dashboard form has no separate build-command or start-command fields.

Common problems

If package.json or Dockerfile cannot be found, check the subfolder and branch. If shared monorepo packages are missing, check whether the build needs workspace definitions from the repository root. Selecting a deeper subfolder alone does not solve workspace dependencies. If building succeeds but the website does not respond, continue to the application's Logs page.
